For the buyer, its always better to have too many options that to have too less. However, today’s treadmill industry makes it hard for a buyer to compare. When making treadmill comparisons, you should consider understanding the essentials of the equipment.

The budget usually decides which treadmill to get. While comparing treadmills, it is always a strong factor in the checklist. Unless you are buying a treadmill for a gym, hotel, or other commercial use, you’d find that a limited budget can be frustrating.

Here are some of the essentials that you have to look into when making comparisons. Make sure you have considered them strongly when looking for the best buy.

- Ask about the motor. If you are just looking for a treadmill that you could use at home, a 2.0 hp motor is recommended. Some may cost more but that’s because other brands have more features added to it. Understand the motor’s purpose first before checking on other features.

- The walking belt must be sturdy. The belt is another part of the treadmill that is expensive. Make sure that you choose the brand that is easy to maintain. When the belt breaks down, complications arise. Ensure that the user manual is easy to understand.

- Another thing is the treadmill’s cushioning. At this point, it can be a bit difficult to make a judgment about the cushioning of a treadmill. Reading treadmill comparisons may not be enough. So it’s best that when you finalize your checklist, you try them out yourself and see if all the claims are justified.

- Look for a good frame. This is important too because when your treadmill starts running, vibrations occur. If a treadmill doesn’t have a strong frame construction, it may not last long enough. Go to a store and verify this component as well.

- Look for the treadmill with a good deck. This part of the treadmill works hand in hand with the belt. So when you do some cushioning and belt test, check on the deck also. Compare it between brands and your budget.

- Another determining factor in choosing a treadmill is the warranty. A treadmills warranty offering and service often determines the quality of the equipment your buying. When doing treadmill comparisons, get the brands that offer a 5 year warranty on the motor, 2 years on the parts and at least a year of labor.

- The more extra features, the better. Practically, all treadmills do the same thing. Manufacturers compete in the market with treadmill extras such as console features, water holders, and other stuff that you can live without. However, not all extras are trivial. Some are useful too.

Consumer ratings and expert reviews are also good sources of help. It makes it much easier if you have a list of brands already. But even if you are on a limited budget, do not make comparisons between a motorized and a manual treadmill.

These treadmill reviews usually give a list of which treadmills you should get and which ones you should avoid. Check if what you have in your list has positive feedbacks. Change your list if you have to then base your treadmill comparisons there.

Drinking coffee is a must for many people. People who are devout coffee lovers often grab a cup of coffee (or two) before they do anything else in the morning. Coffee is laden with caffeine, unless you drink the decaffeinated varieties, and could be loaded with sugar and fat as well. Depending on how you like your daily cup of java, you could be putting your health at risk. Coffee may not be the healthiest beverage you could put into your body. In fact, when you think that over 400 million cups of this tasty beverage is served up everyday, you have to wonder if something so great could be good for your health. The answer is probably not and here is why.

Enjoying coffee in moderation: The key to anything is moderation and that certainly goes for your favorite cup of coffee, too. Whether you like it black, or smooth and creamy with all the bells and whistles, coffee is not going to hurt you in moderation. That means that one cup of coffee a day should do it and anything over that is excess. However, you certainly will not convince hard and heavy coffee drinks to give up their cup. It is comparable to smoking—people get addicted to the coffee and feel that they need that stimulant to keep them going. If you are concerned about your health and your daily coffee intake, then you should take measures to decrease your consumption and try to drink your coffee in moderation.

Caffeine is the key for many: There are many reasons why coffee may not be the best thing for your health, but mostly the reason is because if the excess amounts of caffeine that you will find in coffee. Caffeine is the main ingredient in coffee and is certainly a stimulant to your body. Too much caffeine can have a bad effect on your health. It can raise your blood pressure, increase your heart rate and may actually produce an irregular heartbeat. If you are healthy, then this may not be a major concern for you, however if you are in poor health or are already experience high blood pressure, then caffeine should be something you avoid. It is however, unfortunate that caffeine is the hook for coffee and that is what keeps most people coming back fro more.

As far as your health goes, coffee may also affect the amount of calcium that women take into their diets. Think about it this way, if you reach for a cup of coffee every morning and decline the daily glass of milk, then you are robbing your body of calcium, which fights off osteoporosis as your age.

Try different varieties: So, what if you simply cannot give up those daily cups of coffee each day? Do you have to give it up altogether? The answer is no. You can certainly decrease your caffeine intake and drink decaf varieties. Also, add in healthy “stuff” to your coffee, such as milk. If you are a woman, then don’t forget that you need the calcium. Supplement your diet with a good calcium chew.

I treat UTI and cystitis patients every day. Here is a dilemma I have come across several times when talking to people who have a cystitis or bladder infection, also frequently called a urinary tract infection. Hopefully this will help other sufferers from repeated UTI to know that they are not alone, and that many others worry too

Is regular sex important in your life and in your relationships? (For most of us it is, even if we have difficulty in admitting it – even to ourselves). The problem is – even if sex is not particularly important to you, and you can honestly say that you would be just as happy if your relationship had no sex at all – would your partner say the same?

Tricky question isn’t it? A true partner will put up with a lot – weight gain, bad temper, depression, tiredness – especially if they know that you are ill and have no control over your situation. But a lack of sex for many that is a real test of relationship!

You have caught and need to treat UTI. You also have a devoted long-term partner. What will you do? Do you really know him or her that well? Will they really be sympathetic and supportive? After all, a UTI or bladder infection is not like putting on a few pounds, or being cranky, or having a broken arm. Those conditions might make things tricky in bed (especially that broken arm), but at least your partner can’t catch a broken arm or depression from you after a vigorous hour or so -unless they fell out of bed anyway!

But a urinary tract infection – that’s different! Despite the fact that a large proportion of the population has had to treat UTI at some time or another; despite the fact that Cystitis pain is rarely life-threatening; despite the fact that it is not defined as a sexually transmitted disease; – for many it is still an embarrassing illness. You don’t talk about bladder infections in mixed company.

And if you do decide to talk about it? Well, you’ll certainly separate your best friends from the rest. They’ll all feel sorry for you and console you, but only your really true friends will always be there to support you when you need them. And your sexual partner? Well that’s a whole different ball-game. Because unlike a bad temper, UTI’s and Cystitis CAN be transferred to a someone else during sex.

So do you tell them? A partner who really loves you will probably understand – at first anyway – and be willing (for their sake as well as yours), to abstain from relations until treatment can be effective. The trouble is, treating cystitis with antibiotics isn’t always immediate, or effective, or lasting, especially using doctor-prescribed antibiotics.

Antibiotics don’t permanently get rid of the UTI’s or cystitis bugs in the urinary tract that are causing the condition, and now that most doctors are prescribing ever shorter treatments with antibiotics in the interests of preventing them becoming less effective, repeated UTI’s and bladder infections are much more common than they were.

In situations like this a devoted lover could steadily become less understanding, less patient and less loving. It’s the way our brains are wired – if we’re used to sex several times a week, and then it is withdrawn, we get tetchy, irritable and – eventually – irrational. Although we know perfectly well that having a cystitis infection isn’t our partner’s fault, we start to blame them and start looking for alternatives.

So a simple option for the UTI sufferer is not to tell their partner, but that isn’t going to work if you are so ill because of the infection that you just don’t want sex at all. You could go to a doctor to get another prescription for antibiotics, then take a large initial dose in the hope of rapidly killing the infection, (but at the same time you risk the side-effects that may result from killing off most of your good bacteria too). Or you could look around for a natural cure for UTI. There is a really fantastic natural cure for UTI and cystitis presently

It is variously called Mannose, D-Mannose or Waterfall D Mannose (Sorry, I don’t know why). It’s an extremely unusual UTI remedy because it works differently from most other natural remedies. It will pass through your urinary system sucking up all those nasty cystitis-causing bugs clinging to your bladder walls, and hold them in suspension until you next expel them by urination. Easy eh?

In many cases Mannose starts working in less than an hour, and for most sufferers, just regular small daily doses will treat Cystitis, Bladder Infections and UTI’s and hold them at bay almost indefinitely. Chronic Cystitis sufferers who have suffered several earlier attacks will need to take more doses and for longer, but most sufferers recover more quickly and more permanently than those relying entirely on antibiotics. Mannose is not expensive, and needs no doctor’s prescription.

There is a steadily increasing amount of interesting material about D Mannose – it is a genuine natural cure for UTI in every sense. I have a comprehensive and steadily growing Mannose Information Library on my health site, where the answers to most common questions by cystitis-sufferers are freely available. There you can learn how mannose works to treat cystitis, and also learn a lot about Cystitis, Bladder Infections and UTIs in general.

Electrical muscle stimulation or EMS is an exercise aid that uses very mild electrical current to cause your muscles to contract, under the auspices of increasing tone and fitness. Historically, EMS has been used in medical situations to help relieve muscle pain. For several years now, EMS devices have been available commercially to the general public as supplements to an exercise program.

While many manufacturers claim that EMS systems will cause people who lead a sedentary lifestyle to get into shape, there actual effectiveness is a subject of debate.

In 2002 the American Council on Exercise, a nonprofit fitness advocate, published a study on EMS in its magazine. According to the study, the type of EMS used by manufactures of abdominal exercise belts was ineffective, time consuming and often painful.

This led to injunctions against the makers of certain EMS products for false and misleading advertisements. The manufacturers were claiming their products would lead to a loss in body fat and an increase in muscle tone, helping people achieve ideal “six-pack” abs. During the study, subjects underwent EMS “training,” according to the guidelines of the products’ manufacturer for eight weeks. The subjects did not lose any body fat or gain any muscle strength from using EMS alone. The researchers who conducted the study implied that EMS had no intrinsic value and could not serve as a replacement for weight training and other conventional forms of exercise.

That said, EMS does have its proponents. Olympic sprinting coach Charlie Francis published an article in Testosterone magazine about the history and benefits of EMS.

He recommends EMS as a supplement to a weight-lifting and exercise program, citing its effectiveness in conjunction with conventional exercise.

Francis said he encourages athletes to use EMS as a low-intensity exercise to help them increase circulation and recover form their more intense, regular exercise routines. He also recommended EMS as a way for bodybuilders to increase muscle density or burn off a tiny layer of fat before an exhibition.

However, Charlie Francis explicitly says EMS alone will not lead to the same results as a conventional exercise and weight lifting program. He says that EMS has use as a training device and for muscle rehabilitation, but that the idea that one can use EMS in place of good, old-fashioned weight lifting, running, calisthenics and other forms of resistance training and gain a rock hard, weight-lifter’s body does not make sense.

So, we can now see that the value of EMS is a subject of discussion and research. Many people believe EMS machines are dangerous and not very useful, a scam promising to make sedentary couch potatoes think they can get fit without moving. Others see EMS as a medical technology appropriate for rehabilitation or a fitness technology useful for professional athletes, bodybuilders and hardcore fitness buffs.

Whatever the uses of EMS may be, it seems that the experts can agree on one thing. Using EMS alone is not a replacement for weight-lifting. If you’re considering spending hundreds of dollars on an EMS machine, your money might be better spent on a gym membership or a nice set of weights.

Have you wondered how metal railings could add finesse to your railing design and overall look? For information in reilings”http://www.deck-porch-railings.com/designs.html”>house remodeling or railings This article tells you how this can be achieved and also some benefits of metail railings

Railings are made from different materials, and each has it own characteristics. Among all materials, metals have grown to be the favorite materials, owning to its durability and strength and different metals have their own characteristics, which give them their status among manufacturers.

Advantages Of Metal Railings

Unlike PVC, Glass and wood railings, metal railings have its own advantages. Following are a few advantages of metal railings.

• Metal facilitates construction of small and lightweight sections to suit once purpose. • Metal railings are durable as they do not splinter and corrode like wood. • Personalized designs are possible with metal railings. • Metal railings can be made from casting or flat product depending on ones lifestyle and budget. • Metal is comparatively a better choice over PVC and wood especially in outdoor conditions. • Powder coating the metal ensures a longer life for the metal railing, and can help to increase its life span up to 25 to 30 years. • Low cost of maintenance is the biggest advantage; wiping with a wet cloth is all it needs for cleaning.

Commonly used metals for making Railings.

Generally a lot of metals are used to make railings but the most common among them are: -

1. Stainless Steel: it is the most commonly used metal because it is durable and strong, besides being comparatively lighter than other metals. Steel also has the capability to maintain its luster for a longer time and hence maintenance is very low. Workability of stainless steel is very high and its resistance is more when being passed through power press machines. Above all it gives the structure a modern look.

2. Wrought iron: it the next most favorite metal for making railings, as it gives the structure an antique look. It is basically maintenance free; all it is requires is a good coat of paint and regular cleaning to keep it new. The only disadvantage of wrought iron is that it is very heavy and difficult to repair as welding it is difficult, and getting the same design is also very difficult, hence once broken the only option is complete replacement.

3. Aluminum: lightweight and durability are the characteristic that makes aluminum one of the favorite metals. Maintenance cost of aluminum is similar to stainless steel and is best when it comes to making square shapes and straight-line structures. The workability of aluminum is low compared to other metals, especially when it comes to making curved structures and hence is not the most preferred metal for railings.

4. Brass: once the most preferred metal among the rich and the famous in medieval times, brass has lost its status to other metals. Modern day railing manufacturers rarely use brass, except as a covering at some places, as brass requires regular polishing to maintain its luster.

Therefore, it can be concluded that out of the four metals only stainless steel is in vogue and hence the most preferred metal of railing manufacturers.

Aromatherapy is a term coined by French chemist Rene Maurice Gattefoss in the 1920′s. It describes the practice of using essential oils taken from plants, flowers, roots, seeds, etc., for their benefits. Aromatherapy is said to restore or enhance mental, emotional, physical or spiritual health.

Essential oils that are derived from plants is the foundation of aromatherapy. Properties of each oil can differ widely, from caustic to anti-inflammatory. An average household would only need to know around ten oils and their properties for simple use, although there are approximately three hundred varieties in use by practitioners.

Phenylpropane, the precursor of amino acids, are what essential oils are derived from. You may recognize amino acids as the building blocks of the human body. When you apply these oils to your skin, as in massage, they are transported to organs and systems of the body. Once there, they act to enhance the natural functions of these organs. While chemical drugs can remain in the body reaking havoc for days, months, and even years down the road, essential oils do not, as far as any research shows. They enter the body, where their benefits remain, and then leave, with no toxic markers left behind.

Each oil has its own medicinal and other properties. It is the “essence” of the oil–its chemical properties–that gives it whatever therapeutic value the oil might have. Essential oils may have anti-septic, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal or anti-viral properties, or a blend of two or more.

Each essential oil contains its own mix of active ingredients, and this mix determines the healing properties of the oil. Tea-tree oil is one that is widely known and used for it’s antiseptic properties. However, essential oils can be dangerous if misused or little more than an expensive room fragrance. Knowledge of essential oil properties is the key.

For instance, we have all seen so many products on the market that smell very nice and claim to be aromatherapy. This, unfortunately, is incorrect. Many times companies simply put synthetic perfume oils and other un-natural ingredients in their products and label them aromatherapy. These products do not provide even a fraction of the benefits that the natural products can supply you.

Look for items that state ‘pure essential oil’. Labels such as ‘perfume’ are bad as well. When you consider that there are over 900 toxic products in about 98% of the skin care products on US shelves today, you want to be extra cautious!

Aromatherapy is also a great way to indulge yourself. It is something we should all treat ourselves to as often as we can. Because it effects the “whole”, aromatherapy is a truly holistic form of healing. Since much of this world is artificial, it is nice to know that you can have something real as a source of healing.

Exercise bicycles provide resistance which can be adjusted because some exercisers may want to pedal slowly but at higher resistance while others would prefer pedaling faster but at lower resistance. This latter type is often called spinning and is a form of aerobics exercise that is performed at health clubs and gyms. It requires that the exercise bicycles be set up to accommodate the type of exercise that the exerciser wishes to do. Adding variety to the workout can also be achieved through interval training which means alternating periods of high and low intensity and it helps the exerciser to comfortably achieve good workouts.

The diversity of applications that an exercise bicycle provides the rider makes it ideal for patients suffering from back problems and the seats and handlebars can be adjusted to facilitate different levels of comfort as well as keeping the rider’ s posture in the right position and that includes not tilting too far back. Most riders can adjust their exercise bicycles to whatever stature they want and also can opt for leaning forward or sitting upright, according to individual requirements.

Mostly, the exercise bicycles should be used to exercise at least thrice a week and for 20 minutes daily. For those who are not fit enough they can start slowly and work their way up to higher levels of exercise. Normally, there should be at least a sixty to eighty-five percent increase in the rider’ s maximum heart rate, using an exercise bicycle.

Adjust the Seat and Height to Ensure the Best Posture

Before using the exercise bicycle one should, if one is new to such exercises, consult with a health professional to ensure that the program that one is going to perform is suitable and will not result in injuries as well as also help to determine the rider’ s optimum heart rate during the exercise workout. Before starting the exercise on the exercise bicycles one should warm up and afterwards, cool down and one may also incorporate stretching and strengthening exercises. In addition, a health professional may also be able to suggest the riding position that is most comfortable as well as supportive of the back of the rider.

Keeping a good posture ensures that the body is centered and the back is positioned to avoid hypertension. There can be considerable stress to the lower back, upper back as well as the neck if the posture is incorrect. A number of people realize that exercise bicycles are a good exercising choice that can be used in the house as well as at fitness centers.

Taking good care of your back is important in order to prevent back pains and other injuries from occurring. Here are some ways in caring for your back.

Lift properly. When attempting to lift any type of weight from the floor, lift with your legs with the help of your knees and not with your back. Bend your knees as you lower yourself close to the object, making sure that the back is straight and the object is near your body with the hands securely holding it. Then, lift the object with your knees’ strength and then carry it on your waist level. Also, do not force yourself if the object is much too heavy for you to lift. Ask someone to help you out in the process. You may also want to make use of a roller or pushcart to assist you especially when transferring a heavy load from one distance to another. Carrying a heavy weight and walking around all the same for long periods can take a toll on your back.

Relax and stretch. Sitting for very long periods can stress your lumbar spine. You may not be able to see its effect just yet because it gradually develops over time. To avoid this from happening, it is recommended that you stand up at least every twenty minutes to an hour or so and do relaxation techniques such as walking around or stretching. This can give you relief from stress and ease muscle tension. Stretching can also promote proper blood circulation in your back as well as the flexibility and durability of your back muscles.

Get healthy and fit. Excess body weight can put a stress on your lower back and may aggravate back problems. Thus, it is important t maintain the ideal body and always make a conscious effort to keep it that way. All it takes is discipline and the drive to become fit and stay fit for a healthier lifestyle. Eat a well-balanced, nutritious diet, take vitamin supplements, get plenty of rest and exercise regularly. You may want to start by performing low intensity exercises first such as walking. Moreover, swimming can also give your back muscles the right conditioning as well. Remember that stronger back muscles mean stronger back support.

Sleep properly. You may not know it, but sleeping in the right position can spare you from experiencing back pains especially when you wake up in the morning. Have comfortable pillows to give you added sleeping comfort as well. Avoid sleeping on your stomach. Also, put your pillows under your knees when sleeping on your back so that your back is kept in a slightly curved position. Make sure that your mattress is not too soft or too firm for you to sleep on. It may be a good idea to rotate your mattress’s position every three to four months or so and turn it over twice a year. When getting up, use your elbows and hands when pushing your body off the bed, allowing them to take most of the weight.

There is no doubt that a strong and healthy back can make you feel and look better as well as allow you to do things with ease and fluidity. Your back muscles’ condition will determine the extent of mobility it possesses and affect how your back can support your body effectively. You may not know it, but having a strong and healthy back and maintaining it in good condition can do a whole lot of wonders for you. The saying may hold true that if you take good care of your back, then it will take care of you too.

Getting a strong and healthy back is simple. The first thing you need to do is to get in shape. When you have a fit body, chances are that you are more likely to have a healthy back. Along with a healthy back comes more strength and flexibility to carry out your everyday normal activities.

Have you ever noticed that “S” curve of your back? Three of the spine’s natural curves actually form such, which include the cervical spine or the neck portion, thoracic spine or the trunk region and the lumbar spine or the lower back area. These are located in the upper, middle and lower portion of the back, respectively. Each division comes with its own set of bones and muscles that are working together to provide body weight support and protection of the spinal cord that is located inside the vertebrae.

Ideally, these thee parts of the spine should be kept in its normal alignment to achieve a balance. This enables them to evenly support the body’s weight, thus reducing the risks of back injuries.

On the other hand, a certain type of muscle group called as the erector spinae form on the sides of the spine. Among the commonly known back muscles are the trapezius muscles, which originate at the skull’s base down to the cervical and thoracic vertebrae; the levator scapulae, which is a smaller muscle lying underneath the trapezius and the latissimus dorsi, which is the largest muscle in the body with its fibers originating along the vertebrae of the spine’s lower half.

Other examples of back muscles are the infraspinatus, teres major, teres minor and rhomboid. The human body has many other back muscles; some can be readily and obviously seen while other back muscles can only become apparent when these are developed and defined properly by specific exercise regimens.

There are three components to working your abs to get that sculpted look—nutrition, aerobic exercise and abdominal training. Truth is, you won’t have a washboard stomach with a 6-inch layer of fat over it, no matter how many crunches you do. In order to get a good six-pack, you have to remove the fat that covers your abdominal muscles, and that takes a nutritionally balanced weight-loss diet and aerobic exercise.

You can, however, strengthen your abs even before you lose the fat; the abdominals are core muscles and strong abs stabilize your spine, give you good posture and balance and help you move smoothly and gracefully.

Anatomy

There are three layers of abdominal muscles, and they run in three different directions. The outermost layer contains the outer oblique muscles, which run diagonally along the sides of your abdomen, connecting the posterior ribs, spine and pelvis. The next layer contains the internal obliques, which run just under the external ones, and the rectus abdominus. The rectus is a broad, flat muscle that runs vertically down the front of your abdomen from the ribs to your pelvis. It is crossed by several horizontal tendons, which is what gives you that six-pack look. The bottom layer contains the transverse abdominus, which runs horizontally across your abdomen from side to side.

It’s helpful to know what the function of each of the muscles is:
• The rectus flexes your spine.
• The transverse abdominus is primarily used for abdominal breathing.
• The external obliques rotate your body toward the opposite side (contracting the left external obliques causes you to rotate toward the right.)
• The internal obliques rotate your body toward the same side.

Protect Your Spine

When you’re doing ab training, remember that these muscles attach to your spine. It’s important to make sure you are doing exercises correctly; consult with a trainer if you’re not sure how to perform them.

Full sit ups are not recommended anymore by anyone because they 1)aren’t necessary for exercising your abs and 2)can injure your spine. We do crunches instead.

Whenever you are doing ab training, place your hands behind your neck and press your back toward the floor. Keep your knees bent. This protects the natural curves of your spine.

IMPORTANT: If you have osteoporosis or a previous back injury, check with your doctor before attempting any ab training exercises.

Crunches

All ab training exercises are a variation on the basic crunch. You can raise your hips or your shoulders, but the object is to contract the abdominal muscles. Here are a few crunch pointers:
• Save crunches for the end of your workout. Remember, the abdominal muscles are involved in respiration, and you don’t want to fatigue them early in the workout.
• Pull your stomach in—press your belly button into your back—to contract the transverse muscle. Remember not to hold your breath while you’re doing this.
• Keep your abdominals tightened throughout a series of reps. Make your movements slow and controlled, and pause briefly at the top of each rep.
• Don’t raise your hips or shoulders more than 4-6 inches off the floor—that’s all you need for full contraction of the muscles.
• Do lateral crunches to work the obliques—pointing your left shoulder at your right knee.

Crunches are the key to strong abs—regular crunches, oblique crunches, hip raises, crunches with added weight. Keep crunching and soon you’ll have great abs.
